Global Expansion, Inc. Partners With Black Diamond Charities to Help Transitioning Military Veterans
GREENVILLE, SC - Black Diamond Charities (BDC) is a 501c3 non-profit focused on helping US Military, Military Spouses, and Veterans through free Project Management Fundamentals classes to US military and veterans to help advance their civilian careers. Global Expansion, Inc. (GEI) a Global Career and Job Search Coaching Company, has been working with BDC for the past year assisting Military, Veterans and Transitioning Veterans with their post military careers and job search.
BDC conducts comprehensive Project Management Fundamentals courses at no cost to the students where all instructors are PMP-certified volunteers and many of them are former military. Their courses help connect the dots between their military experience and project management in the civilian world. Graduates of their courses can then earn their CAPM and PMP Certifications at no cost.
BDC’s partnership with GEI allows the veterans to take their transition and job search even further by assisting in developing comprehensive job search strategies. This includes from the fundamentals (resume, cover letter, job board registrations, creating new job opening alerts, LinkedIn profile updates and optimization), to the more detailed (developing a comprehensive search strategy, coaching, mentoring, day to day job search management, interview preparation, company research, offer letters of employment, and salary negotiations - guiding them through the job search process, every step of the way. In the past year, GEI has helped several graduates of BDC’s programs secure new positions.
This Success Story:
Most recently, GEI assisted US Navy Veteran Quentien Brewington secure a new position as a Performance Auditor with the Department of Veterans Affairs, following his PMP certification.
Says BDC’s President, Gerald Minzey (retired Army), “As folks leave military service, many veterans struggle to translate their vast experience and capabilities into terms that civilian hiring managers can appreciate. Our courses and partnership with GEI help to connect the dots between their military experience and project management in civilian terms. This can help smooth what can otherwise be a very challenging transition.”
According to Ken Zwerdling GEI’s Founder and CEO, the first and hardest step of a transitioning veteran is to accurately, effectively, and simply, communicate their military experience on a resume, so companies, hiring managers, and recruiters can understand who they are, what they have done, and what they are looking to do next. Although Ken did not serve in the military, his father served in the Korean War, his uncle in World War II and his grandfather in World War I. Ken also received the Patriotic Employer Award from the United States Department of Defense for employing veterans in his companies and providing linguist support during both gulf wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This partnership and support were made possible by BDC’s sponsor – US Cellular. According to Laurent “LT” Therivel, President and CEO of US Cellular and former communications officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, “We are passionate about giving back to those that served our country and we are proud to support veterans as they make the transition to civilian life, and we look forward to working with BDC to support their mission.”
